Why We've Really Opened The Vault

Posted at 09:09AM in • PermalinkNo Comments

I’ve been in somewhat of a “fight” with Metallica’s Lars Ulrich since 2000. He hasn’t known it, actually, but it’s been a pretty serious disagreement. I’ve had a hard time buying Metallica records since the band went pop-metal the summer after I was in the eighth grade. Ever since he pulled that Napster bullshit, I’ve nearly avoided the band entirely.

When I found out that Metallica opened their vault of live shows a few months ago, I was dumbfounded. The fact that they’ve released nine (yes, you read that correctly) shows from before the untimely demise of their great bassist Cliff Burton (bus accident, ’86, Sweden), is nothing short of mind-blowing. And, it’s all free. For the first time in 19 years, I actually want to buy a Metallica concert ticket. The Chattanooga show from late ’86 is particularly great.

I was pretty impressed when our friends at the Altimeter Group released an excellent free whitepaper on Social CRM back in March. Their spirit of open research is something the Metz team and I have found really inspiring. So, here’s what we’ve decided to do.

Over the next fourteen weeks, we’ll post every single presentation we’ve presented in the last two years, complete with all of the notes. The first one, 2009’s State Of The Social Web ,has done amazingly well. 73 people have checked it out in the last 72 hours.

In addition to our Metz Consulting YouTube channel (where we’ll be posting all of our speaking events), we’ll be posting all of these presentations right here on the blog. Feel free to post comments or questions, and we’ll answer them right here on the blog, or on Slideshare .
